The new Dover edition, first published in 1961, is unabridged and unaltered republication of the second (1922) edition of the work first published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 1905. The work has previously appeared in one volume, but this Dover edition is published in two volumes.
The Table of Changes in Nomenclature beginning on page 899 was especially prepared for this Dover ed. in 1965 by E. S. Harrar.
